Do you want your child to get the most out of his or her education?
Music students out-perform non-music students on achievement tests in reading and math. Skills such as reading, anticipating, memory, listening, forecasting, recall, and concentration are developed in musical performance, and these skills are valuable to students in math, reading, and science.

FAQ's about being in the BAND:
Does my child have to know anything about music to join Band? No! Any training in music they may have will be helpful, but everything they need to know to play an instrument will be taught in Band.
If my child joins Band, can they still be in football, cheerleading, and other sports and clubs? Yes! All band members are encouraged to participate in athletics and other school activities. Many of the band members are athletes, cheerleaders, JROTC members, Honor Society members and more.
Who will be in the Band? Your child’s friends and fellow classmates will join them in what will be some of the most exciting times of their school days. Our band students are among the leaders in academic achievement, school spirit, and club activities.
What are the advantages of being in Band? The most obvious one is having FUN learning to play an instrument! Band offers your child the opportunity to belong to one of your school’s most spirited, award-winning organizations. Activities include: Performances, Contests, band camp, special trips, pizza parties, and more. Also, if they participate in Band from 6th to 8th grade, they will have the opportunity to join the award-winning Western Hills High School Band when they get to High School. Additionally, participation in music leads to improved academic performance.
Does it cost a lot of money to be in Band? Most students rent an instrument from a music store such as Johnny Paul's Music Shop. Quality new and used instruments are available on a rental-purchase plan with reasonable monthly payments. For students and families with financial concerns, assistance is available.
Which instrument will my child play? These are the instruments that we offer: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Oboe, Bassoon, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, and Percussion.
